We all must have felt bored with reading assignments from the teacher. Not infrequently, we frowned and tried hard to understand the endless words on each page.
We often reread the same line just to the point. As a result, we need more time to finish a book.
Reading assignments will not be so disgusting if we implement a fast read. Here’s a quick read tips that you can apply, as quoted from Surviving College on Friday (04/06/2012).
Skimming
Skimming can save you time. Try reading the topic sentence and find the main ideas without getting too focused on details. Of course, skimming exchange rate with the depth of the material so that you will feel there is a gap of understanding. But to get an overview of a book, this trick works well.
Read a chapter
When reading for a discussion, it is sometimes better to read a chapter or two as a whole and skimming the rest. Discussion sessions can ‘kill’ if you only read at a glance.
Read a chapter or two critically will help contribute to a discussion. Who knows, you are also lucky if you read the chapter that the focus of discussion.
Check the abstract
Scientific articles are usually accompanied by an abstract, the summary gives an outline of your paper to be read. Abstract is a great way to get a basic idea of a scientific article without having read the entire article.
All you have to remember is, no one can replace the understanding that we can actually read from by applying the pattern speed reading. Strategy was a quick read can save our time, but it makes us less informed of details.
